A National Online English Competition for Technical University Students was held on July 31, gathering more than 800 students from over 60 universities and colleges throughout the country.
Unlike previous competitions for a small number of students, a large number of students, connected to the National Computer Network, competed online to ensure fairness, objectivity and accuracy. Direct appraisal system was introduced in grading so that test results could be graded simultaneously with the contest in an hour.
Various forms of problems were presented including multiple choices, true or false, finding correct answers, odd-one outs and matching to assess students’ English level through comprehension, listening, vocabulary and grammar on the common course book.
The 25 students from our university fully demonstrated their great abilities; ten of them took places from the 1st to the 10th among 800 odd students and the university became the top in more than 60 universities and colleges.
Chon Ye Jong in the 3rd grade of School of Information Science and Technology took the first place, Kim Chol Song in the 3rd grade of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, the 2nd place and Kim Ye Cho in the 3rd grade of School of Information Science and Technology, the 3rd place and thus contributed greatly to the university team’s victory.

The 4th National Foreign Language Competition for Technical University Students was held from July 23 to 26 at the University of Sciences, gathering more than 120 students from 50 universities and colleges throughout the country. Our university students demonstrated their ability to the full and won victory.
Jang Jong Ah in the 4th grade of Faculty of Industrial Economic Management excelled her rivals in theme presentation and conversation contests, and thus took the special grade. She also won the first place in comprehension and listening contests, finally winning the grand prix by all accounts in the individual ranking.
Kim Ju Song in the 4th grade of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics was applauded for his reading comprehension supported by versatile knowledge and rich emotion and took the 2nd place. Though being a student majoring in science, So Yong Ji in the 5th grade of the Faculty of Material Engineering surprised the audience with her good listening to those materials that others find difficult to catch up by only listening once and giving perfect answers. She got the 3rd place in the total individual ranking. Kim Hyok Jin in the 4th grade of College of Mechanical Science and Technology was highly praised in comprehension, listening, conversation and presentation contests and got the 3rd place.
By winning the 1st place for four successive times in this competition, the university enhanced his high prestige of a university good at foreign languages.

The male players of the University Sports Team proved themselves at the International Handball Federation Cup tournament, which was held in China's Hong Kong from June 28 to July 2.
The tournament drew six countries including the DPRK.
Coach Ri Myong Song led his teams flexiblely with quick decision making and competent guidance in response to the changing situations of the games.
Left forward Pak Jong Gon scored 31 goals as he threatened the opponents' goal areas with sudden midium-distance shots, and won the top scorer prize. And Kang Il Hyok as the play-maker gave full play to his forte in attack and defence, scoring 29 goals, which earned him the best player prize.
Meanwhile, Ro Il Gwang, Hwang Song Il and Mun Ik Bom also played their part in leading their side by assisting two-to-three forays.

An exhibition of IT achievements of students of Kim Chaek University of Technology took place at the gym of the university from June 27 to 29 on the occasion of its 70th founding anniversary.
Put on show were over 200 valuable sci-tech proposals and other exhibits the university students presented as they briskly conducted scientific research activities to prepare themselves as practical personnel as demanded by the times.
On the theme of scientific and technological problems that wait urgent solution in different economic sectors including electric power, metallurgy, chemistry, coal, railway transport, machinery, light industry, construction, education, public health and sports, the exhibition was divided into five panels, especially the machine-building industry and IT.
Proposals "Automatic abstraction of ground datum point on the satellite image" presented by Yun Kum Song, 4th grader at the College of Information Science and Technology, and "Intelligent flux transmitter" by Paek Myong Ho, 4th grader at the Faculty of Automatic Engineering, took the special prize and at least 160 proposals were highly appreciated in the exhibition.

University students got together on May 18 to present their papers.
The meeting was organized to spark the students' passion for study and research and help them build up their capacity for presentation, this year that marks the 70th anniversary of the University.
Since early February efforts were made to work out papers with the result that as many as 90 papers were completed.
The event was featured by four highly appreciated scientific essays and a paper which was evaluated as the best in the 10th Mathematical Modeling Contest.
Ri Kwon, student at the College of Information Science and Technology, published his research findings on the blind digital image water marking robust for print and shooting using DCT. Pong Myong Song, student at the Faculty of Automation Engineering, dealt with the research on the walking pattern generation of bipedal robot. Ri Kum Chol, who studies at the Faculty of Material Engineering, presented “Research on the establishment of copper staves casting process in blast furnace”. Jong Hyon Il, An Jin Su and Hyon Jin Song from the College of Information Science and Technology released “Research on efficiency evaluation of running rule on motorway in accordance with the keep-right rule”, which stole the show at the 10th Mathematical Modelling Contest.
The event served as an occasion in helping students improve their capacity for document analysis, research and presentation.

Kim Chaek University of Technology retained its title at the Codechef Challengers' Contest.
The Internet programming competition was held from May 4 to 14, divided into two categories, with at least 6 600 contestants from dozens of countries including China and Russia in attendance.
Category A presented 8 problems including one for challengers.
Kim Song Il, a student at the Faculty of Automation Engineering of the University, fully solved all the problems with best solutions, scoring the top 800 points.
